Ever wondered how all those home decor insta influencers get their beds looking so perfectly put together and plump? Once you know the secrets, it’s actually easier than it looks. Try out these six tips to styling a magazine-ready bed from top to bottom.

Build Your Base

Still rocking that hand-me-down bed frame from your first apartment? No shame here, but maybe it’s time to upgrade. Invest in some quality sheets and a good mattress too, while you’re at it. Even more important than giving your bed A+ style is getting a good night’s sleep.

Flip the Script

The first tip is actually to make the bed with your top sheet upside down. That way when you fold it back over the covers the finished side will be up. Plus, it’s extra soft when you slide into bed at night.

Lots of Layers

Using several layers is one of the best ways to improve both the style and coziness of your bed. Add a blanket or quilt under your duvet, and toss a soft throw blanket at the foot of the bed for some extra texture.

If you live in a hot climate, this tip may sound totally impractical. But you can still have the look without waking up sweaty. Choose lightweight layers and materials that don’t absorb as much heat, and fold your duvet at the foot of the bed when it’s too warm.

Double Up

Speaking of that duvet - here’s an interior designer secret. Put two duvet inserts in your cover to get that extra plush look and feel. You can also opt for just one insert a size larger than your cover.

Finding the Right Mix

Getting the right combo of colors and patterns is key. Mix bold patterns with neutral palettes, or play around with a couple different soft patterns. You could also go for the monochromatic look and combine different shades of the same color.

Most importantly, don’t forget to add texture. A tassel edge blanket or chunky quilt will add some significant dimension to your styling and keep from looking flat.

Add More Pillows

Decorative pillows are the perfect finishing touch for a photo-ready bed. Not only do they add depth and personality, but they are easy to swap any time you are ready for a new look.

Traditional decor rules say to start with larger pillows in the rear and get smaller with each layer. A King bed will need three 26” or 28” square pillows across the back, two for a Queen.

But ultimately the design is up to you! Stick with a perfectly polished and symmetrical style, or mix up sizes and proportions for a more modern, unique feel. See our latest arrivals to find your new favorite pillows.

Whether your look is modern, boho, eclectic or anything else, a well-designed bed is always in style. With these tips for styling like a pro, you are well on your way to a bed you’ll want to both show off and spend the day in. For more design inspiration, check out our instagram!
