What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than to toast to America’s birthday with a little wine, cheese and charcuterie? After all, a good cheese plate goes with everything - even fireworks.

Putting together a festive 4th of July cheese board is also much easier than you might think. Just check out these ideas for assembling the perfect red, white and blue charcuterie.

Cheeses

The most essential part of any cheese board is of course, the cheese. Fortunately there are tons of white varieties of cheese that will fit nicely into our patriotic color palette.

Asiago, parmesan, white cheddar, manchego and muenster are all good options for hard or semi-hard cheeses, while goat cheese, mozzarella, brie, and camembert make solid choices for softer varieties. Blue and gorgonzola also fit the bill, but not everyone is a fan of their potent flavors.

You could also look for goat cheese coated in preserves, like blueberry or cranberry, for a cheese with some color. Or buy a separate jar of jam and make your own!

Meats

Conveniently, most charcuterie meats have a reddish tone, so it shouldn’t be difficult to work them in. Pepperoni, salami, sopressata and prosciutto are some of our favorites.

Fruits and Veggies

All the common berry options pair nicely with charcuterie, as well as red grapes and black olives. You could get a little fancy with some figs and pomegranate seeds, or keep things simple with cherry tomatoes and red apple slices.

There’s honestly a ton of options when it comes to fruits and vegetables, so feel free to pick and choose your favorites. Just take a quick trip through the produce section or farmers market and you’re sure to find plenty for your plate.

Crackers and Breads

Again, most crackers and breads already fit naturally into the color scheme, so you can probably just grab your go-to favorites and keep on moving down your list.

Unconventional Options

If a traditional charcuterie board isn’t your style, there are plenty of other red, white and blue foods that can be subbed in. Try blue corn tortilla chips with salsa, or hummus and sliced red bell peppers.

Or if you want to make a cheese board for your whole family you can add in more kid-friendly options like popcorn, red twizzlers, festive sugar cookies, white cheddar cheese crackers and yogurt covered pretzels.
